About Animations

Particle-tracking animations for selected E. coli sampling events at Memorial or Metropolitan Beach can be selected from the dropdown list below. Each animation represents the movement of particles backwards in time from their destinations during the sampling event near the beach to their previous source areas. The animations were created by use transient simulations of the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model of Lake St. Clair developed as part of the Michigan Source Water Assessment Program. The hypothetical particles move with the depth-averaged velocities simulated by the flow model. Selecting an animation will initiate a new internet browser window. The freely available Adobe Flash Player is needed to display the animation within the browser.
